Newbie Question(s) so dumb, you're afraid to even ask!

Sitebulb or Screming Frog? I like Sitebulb interface and how it presents data. But it just seems like a bit of a toy still.
I do like the crawl map map in SItebulb, makes explaining the topic easier.
I need to Google sitebulb, it seems.
was just about to pull the trigger on screamingfrog

What is the meaning of "[redacted]" on the forum? Is it about deleted words for privacity reasons? Are they "forbidden" words on the forum?

It's 99% of the time just a joke. Anyone can get in on it. Yesterday I did something like this in a thread: [REDACTED]. (click the fuzzy part, which is done using [ispoiler] tags.

It often means, and that specific case, that there's more to a story or to a tactic that I don't want to reveal but I've left enough hints that it can be figured out by anyone taking the time to think about it. Usually it's a joke with real truth behind it.

Sometimes it's simply a low-level, no-secrets-behind-it joke, too. One where you pretend you hold the secret keys to secret information, but it's all just for goofs.

Though I did [REDACT] a ton of stuff for real in one of my case study threads a while back. I shared openly back at the start before the forum had too many eyeballs on it. Eventually people started trying to play detective so I had to clean up the breadcrumb trail.

I have a list of roughly 4000 sites, I would like to know if they have run any Google PPC campaigns in the last couple of years. I don't need granular information, just if they ever spent money on PPC. KW would be great, but not necessary.

I'm looking to do this in bulk. I couldn't find a bulk PPC checker in Ahrefs, SPyFu, SEMRush and ispionage, unless I over looked it.

Any suggestion, is greatly appreciated.

Is having affiliates links in downloadable PDFs (not directly displayed on the website) typically against T&Cs? I know you can't put affiliate links on third party websites, does that extend to anywhere 'third party', including downloads?

It depends on the program. Something like Amazon or Walmart is going to care. They don't want dummies spamming the internet with links to their sites. Smaller independent programs or ones running through places like Commission Junction and Clickbank most likely don't care (yet). They just want the sales.

You'll have to check the terms of the program you're concerned about. They usually make it pretty clear and easy to find. They'll say things like "Allowed Sources: Search, Paid Ads, Email, Social Media. Disallowed Keywords: Brand" where the keywords restrict how you can do PPC ads.

So I've jumped on Twitter and have started to follow a few of the old names I still remember. Going through a thread by Grindstone he mentions 'Unlinked Citations' - is this just domain.com without the link?

Correct. Typically people talk about it in terms of "Unlinked Citations" as URLs and "Unlinked Brand Mentions" as your brand name typed out, both without a link, of course.

Any recommendations for hosting? I used WiredTree years ago and they were the best when it came to customer support. I had a VPS plan and that seemed to work out in the beginning to get things started. I saw they were acquired by LiquidWeb but I have no experience with them. Who do you guys use/recommend that also has great customer support?

I have SiteGround. Customer service is fantastic. Reasonably priced for solid performance. Might be some others out there but it's head and shoulders above GoDaddy, HostGator.

Anyone with experience of the Soledad theme?

I am currently using Generatepress on most of my sites, but thinking of going with Soledad for one of them. But my previous experience with Themeforest themese made me a skeptic. Is it bloated and slow like Newspaper and all the other themes?

Generatepress is lightning fast and clean, but some of Soledads themes looks way better in terms of UX.

If, you have an affiliate niche site then the product you have recommended is no longer available, what do you do?

Agreed with JamaicanMoose. Otherwise might be interesting to try something different related to your niche if that particular product didn't convert well.

Hi, I have some questions related to the running of my forum:
1. I have tons and tons of image boards (forum topics that contain a lot of images), but there is very little text. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to add better value to those images boards? I am currently paying for a content writer to conduct light research and to write biographical profiles.
2. Does anyone have any recommendation on easy video content creation? I feel like short-form and long-form video is the future of winning in SEO.

WebSite Auditor is your best choice

Website Auditor is coming out with what looks like a promising update by the end of the month.

It's no Cora SEO, but it looks useful for people who can't afford the monthly fees of Surfer or Page Optimizer Pro.

InVideo is pretty painless (apart from the fact you can only access the tool with Chrome) with helpful staff. They had/have an Appsumo deal as well as the website pricing, plus you can chat to them about custom deals if you have special video needs.

This finally released today. So far it looks decent. I'm sure it'll improve in the coming weeks and months.

For those wanting to give it a look . . .

I have a service business and want to get my legal act together. I want to have a simple checkbox on my order form that covers my ass if the customer hates the service or claims that I've negatively impacted their business.

Using a free template seems to be a dumb way of going about this - should I pay a lawyer? I assume yes, who can handle this type of thing for a US LLC?

This concerns an idea I have about building out a sales brand and online press releases.

As a contractor I sell a fairly big ticket item on behalf of a financial platform. The product is terrific and sales have even managed to hold up (though barely) through this financial wreckage of shutdown ... but a very real problem I have is with the platform's website and collateral sales material being outdated, cheesy, and even inaccurate in terms of what I sell. It didn't seem to matter much before the markets went to shit - but ever since, I've been getting feedback that prospective clients think we're 'scammy' based on what we're giving them for due diligence.

There's something my partner and I are free to do - which is create a selling brand to introduce ourselves (customer base being private equity firms, venture, and RIAs) and with us creating the sales info.

QUESTION: Say we did an online press release (and SEO ramifications not a consideration here) ... and it gets syndicated by, say, Bloomberg and CBS Business or the like - would (should?) we be able to create that section on the home page 'as seen on' or 'featured on' Bloomberg/CBS with watermarked logos?

Or is this actually too scammy in its own right?

Facebook just released their shop feature. That means I can create a "storefront" on my Facebook page.

Do you guys think it's stupid / overkill to create a Shopify website so I can add the checkout URL for my products on Facebook and if it'll be easy to manage hundreds of products? I buy anywhere from single items / lots all the way to pallets.

The only other option they give me is to meet and do the transaction in person.

Dumb question #219

When looking for affiliate offers, how reputable is Clickbank really?

To me, most of the sales videos from a psychology perspective seem to be praying on weak people (which doesn't sit well with me) and telling half-truths e.g. "My WWI war veteran dad was lying in my arms, if only he'd taken time to have these 4 magic herbs".

It seems to be a goto for gurus to "prove their worth" in the internet marketing industry.

Should I spend 2 months writing as much content as possible, then spend all my time promoting the content I've written afterwards, sprinkling in a new post every 2 weeks? Or, should I publish a post, spend a week promoting it, and repeat the process? Does this really matter? I just don't know if not publishing a new article for say, 2 months, because I'm spending all my time promoting content, would hurt my website or not.

It doesn't matter to Google. A regular publishing schedule can help with real people if you end up with fans that check in everyday or use your RSS feed.

Typically that means they've done a story on you, not that an automated press release got syndicated or you bought a link from some contributor with 3 posts that are all noindex and nofollow. Will people actually bother to try to see if you were truly mentioned? Some will and word could spread that you're misrepresenting yourself. There's always a few psychos that will go the full distance to hurt someone else for no reason.

What does this mean for the future of SEO? Could this impact how SEO works ?

Justice Department, State Attorneys General Likely to Bring Antitrust Lawsuits Against Google

If anything it means they'll stop filling the SERPs up with 90% of their own websites and products. Everything is knowledge graph, Youtube, Images, shopping network, Adsense, etc. I doubt it would impact anything other than a forced de-cluttering of the SERPs.

Do you guys think it's stupid / overkill to create a Shopify website so I can add the checkout URL for my products on Facebook and if it'll be easy to manage hundreds of products?

For hundreds of products, it sounds like a nightmare unless they have a way for you to bulk upload from CSV or something. I've only seen Shopify from the consumer side, but it seems like it's built for a lesser number of products. At the same time, are you really going to be able to promote hundreds of products on Facebook one at a time? Are you sure they don't offer any other payment processors?

When looking for affiliate offers, how reputable is Clickbank really?

I think it's exactly as you described. It's reputable in the sense that it's been around forever and they pay out on time, transactions work, tracking works, etc. But they tend to have offers like you've mentioned, ones designed for the gullible. If that's your demographic you won't have a problem.
