Well, what exactly is traffic leaking? For me traffic leaking means having different streams of traffic and not being dependent on one traffic source, wether it's Google or Facebook. Right now the vast majority of my traffic is coming from promoted Facebook posts. If FB decides to ban my ass tomorrow, I'm fucked with this project. So yeah, in my book I just found a way to run high ROI stuff while (hopefully) building an asset at the same time.

I just finished a 2000+ words, 10+ graphic post that is controversial, yet related to my niche. I can already see people taking two sides and bashing each other in the comment section.

I'll push this article with FB again, but my main focus will be on getting more referral traffic to this post.

Traffic leaking or not, what I can say so far is that the homework you gave us really changed the way I look at things. I think I finally understand my customers now and know which buttons to press to create emotions in their heads. Every now and then I look at the compelling titles list and controversy article ideas file I did a few weeks ago to help me with brainstorming.

    Anybody still remember me?

So quite some time has passed since the last update. My journal and the work on this project came to an abrupt halt after I faced some issues in my private life. The usual stuff that happens. Long-term relationship breakup attached to a midlife crisis crippled my ability to work or to focus on anything productive. I sold everything I had and moved to a different continent. That was in 2015.

I quickly got back up again and my projects are more successful than ever (multiple 6 digit a month projects). But I never got back to the CC9 after my 'reboot'.

Now knowing that everybody involved invested a lot of time into this bootcamp I thought it would be a bitch move to just remain silent. While I don't think that I'll have the time to return to being an active forum member I'd still like to give a final update on everything.

So what happened to the project?

I had a few articles posted after I actively stopped my traffic leaking attempts. I did not touch the site at all. Funnily enough the site grew over the months and people shared it on social media and on a couple of forums.

The site averages about 1000 unique visitors a day which mostly from organic searches, some from social media, quite a few recurring visits (I wonder why because the content is not up to date) and some referrals.

    Here's whats interesting:
I never built a single link with an SEO mindset or targeting specific keywords. Now the site has been ranking #2 for a pretty competitive health keyword, right after Wikipedia. And that for over one year. This really surprised me.

    Stats n Figures:
2015 after traffic leaking (around 8 months):
    475 sales = 30988 USD profit

    2016 (11 months):
    1475 sales = 96258 USD profit

3000+ subscriber in 1.5 years which I still haven't mailed yet.

I started the project with paid traffic which I stopped after getting the Facebook account banned in February. Unfortunately I switched tracking systems a few times in the meantime and do not have any numbers for the paid campaign anymore. I just remember it being very profitable as well.

    Takeaway:

While I still think that I failed to really traffic leak the CCarter way I accidentally (?) built a valuable asset which is stable and still rakes in money, 1.5 years after I invested time in the site. The site is doing around 8k USD in profits a month. Without me touching it. For me as a paid traffic guy this is baffling. Campaigns go up and down all the time, I never had campaigns work for over a year without putting work into them.

So for me personally the boot camp was a great way to get out of the comfort zone and to expand my horizon.

I'm writing this post from a coffee shop next to a guy I just hired to take care of this project and a similar one (same setup, different niche). I feel that I should focus my energy on paid traffic while he is handling the practical part of 'curating the brand', handling content creation and the social stuff. Looking at the numbers and the work involved I think that these type of projects are a great investment and I'm sure that I could have made ten times the numbers if I would've continued with this. Let's see where this goes. I will probably give an update if somebody is still interested in this.

    Sorry for the long silence.

That's what happens when you aim to get real, targeted, referral traffic. Traffic leaking is simply being hyper focused on pulling the right traffic to your site in large quantities. Google will handle the rest.

One could argue 'traffic leaking' is the only true marketing. I'm sure @CCarter would agree.

Amazing, man. I remember when I arrived at this forum I read all traffic leaking bootcamp cases. Now the other day I was wondering how some of the guys are doing. And suddenly - boom!

Glad to see you here and definitely would be interested to hear more.
