That sounds pretty great man. How many previous posts did you have on you social sites for them to go though?

Not that many, about 20 pieces of content (like 5 articles and 15 funny / informative pictures).

Awesome Satvrn! I like seeing the polarization in action.

Haha yeah, it's awesome to watch.
Now that I think about it, what would happen if I target butchers, hunters and other people who obviously love meat? Would it totally blow up? Lets find out!

Trolling update:
Published an health article a few days ago, scraped the Facebook IDs of people interacting with health / vegetarian / vegan pages, created a custom audience and promoted the article about the health benefits of eating high quality meat.

I thought custom audiences weren't allowed any more unless you do it through a connected app?

How do you get around this?

I simply scraped the FB email addresses and uploaded the .csv as custom audience in Facebook. Worked for me.

Awesome... I've been too scared to lose my pages since they updated their TOC to continue doing it like this. Do you do custom audiences like this often these days?

Why would they ban your account for this? If they allow custom targeting based on email addresses then you should be fine doing this... but then again it's FB.

Then again we know how bloggers latch onto an idea, haven't checked the TOS myself... All I know is around the same time, my copy of social lead fox stopped working. So the two kind of added up. Admittedly could be a false herring, or maybe the software you've got is just superior

@Satvrn that sounds like a pretty awesome programme. Have you ever used the feature where you scrape the ID's of persons who've made a post with your keyword? And also, which one of the plans did you buy?

I just bought the smallest plan for 97 bucks. Didn't test the keyword feature yet, only group and page scraping.

haha awesome. Satvrn is the man.

I've briefly looked at SocialLeadFreaks before and immediately thought it was garbage due to it's shitty sales page.

Goes to show you 1. How important LP design is 2. you can't always judge a book by its cover.

Update 13/1/15:

Trolling with the FB ads targeting was a great success I think.
  • 161 post likes
  • 15+ comments on my site itself
All in all I spent around 150 bucks. I should've stopped at 75 bucks as the audience was limited and the CPCs increased. I stopped promoting the article with desktop ads for now and switched to mobile ads. Already seeing 2c clicks. This is going to be interesting. I'm looking at approx 700 likes on Facebook now. Here's a nice graph displaying the growth:
h3Kt2ZF.png

Also I'm up to 250 optins that have more or less a buying intention. I still haven't mailed them tho. Why not? I have no clue. I gotta admit that I lost a bit track right now.

The last two weeks I felt that I had no focus at all. I still don't know why, but it led me to sit down for an hour today and to overthink the project and the process. There's so much stuff to do that's still open:
  • plans for coding an mobile app
  • a survey / questionnaire that entices people to share the content and captures their leads (completely done, just needs promotion)
  • an email sequence for the optins I already have (content is already done, mailing infrastructure needs to be setup)
I'm not sure why I did not follow up on this and there is no fucking excuse for it. I'm mad at myself for not doing it, so I'll get that shit done before the end of the week. I have to get shit moving now. The picture Ccarter posted on his blog really feels familiar and that is not a great feeling.

Also I'm pissed that I did not follow up with the daily updates in my opening post. There's no excuse for not writing 10 words at the end of the day. I think I just got the feeling along the way that the project is not growing fast enough so my subconscious mind thought it's a better idea not to hold me accountable for that. Fuck this shit, I got to get back following the process.

Slowly getting the hang of the branding and social stuff. Two posts got shared shared over 400 times combined and led to a lot of new likes, optins and sales.

FB / Social stuff:
lD7ORNb.png

Found some funny pictures that are somewhat related to the audience on thechive.com (great resource). Watermarked them, uploaded them, promoted them with 5 bucks, ended up with a lot of likes, shares and optins. What I'm seeing is that people go through old posts on the fb page, liking, commenting and sharing them. Oh and also converting into sales.

Profitability / ROI:
277%
365%
704%
313%
268%
653%
384%
237%
336%
364%
People that interact on the fb page and on the site itself convert like crazy if you target them with ads again. This is a legitimate product and not a rebill, everything is running uncloaked. Profit wise I'm looking at 1k to 1.5k a day.

Optins and newsletter:
I'm a total noob when it comes to that. Looking at 350 optins now, so I'm getting about 10 leads a day which is not that great. I have to try getting that number up.
I think the people that optin are high quality leads as they're looking for help for a specific problem. I sent out a first mailing to 244 people, 70 opened the mail. The content is high quality without any selling or links in it. I'm not sure if a 28% open rate is a good thing, maybe one of the mailing guys can chime in and give some feedback.

The setup I'm using is not that great. I'm using a very very early beta version of a STMP mailing script one of my devs is coding. Stuff gets send out via Sendgrid and the quality of the account is at 98%.

I'll send out two follow up emails to the leads with another round of high quality, non sales content. After that (in about 2 weeks) I'll send them the first sales email. Let's see if those leads are worth anything.

Surveys:
I'll send out a quick 3 question survey to the email leads asking them questions why they opted in and what their main problems are. This will give me some insight and help me with brainstorming new stuff.

SEO traffic:
I'm not doing any SEO at all, but I saw a big increase of SE traffic lately.

Traffic leaking:
I suck at this, probably because I've never done it before. So far most of the traffic and sales came via paid promotion and I don't consider posting stuff on Facebook traffic leaking. That's low level shit. I'll tackle this next. I can't do any reddit stuff for my niche / geo so I'll have to come up with a good replacement. One thing that gives me hope is that I fucking nailed my marketing research. It's spot on when I look at my fans and sales and compare it to my research. So I got my audience right, I got the right products converting, now I 'just' have to find a few good ways to traffic leak.

I think the free app I had planned is a good idea. Let's get it on.

Omg. Satvrn is doing $1,000+ profit per day with this and some guys still haven't built their site? When dude said "Stop Fucking Around" he meant it! I'm watching closely and trying to learn. Thanks for taking part in this.

To add some transparancy here:

1. People started from very different points.
Some with a JUST built, fresh site.
Some (like Satvrn) with a site already running for a while, bringing in $$$.
2. Satvrn is not bringing on 1K / day from traffic leaking.
He is bringing them in via Facebook PPC, which he has been doing before at the same level.

However, doing the exercises has allowed him to get better at his FB marketing and branding, so some of his success is related to the bootcamp's training, altho not traffic leaking (the target).

I started with a fresh site. The first post was done at the end of October.

Thanks for the transparency.

Hey @Satvrn. How's it going?

I've been focusing a good deal of my attempts on facebook lately. Very little success (next to none) but I keep re-reading this for inspiration. Thanks for that. I'm far from done trying.

Short update for @Calamari:

Nothing super fancy happening right now. I did not find anything to share that would help you guys with your projects, but I'll just give a short update so you're in the loop. I spent some time without hanging around in forums to recharge my batteries, so thats why I was a bit quiet.

Writers are working on one huge article with 20+ graphs / tables. This will be kickass content that got shared in another country to the same audience, so I'm sure that it'll gain some traction here as well. Unlike the other articles that are on the site right now, this new one will be easily shareable in forums. The article is science based but controversial. Depending on the places I'll post the article, the audience will either be pissed off as fuck or they will love it. I feel that this could create some good engagement for the site.

I've signed up on a few different forums and I'm interacting a bit with the crowd to get a feel. Will try to traffic leak there once the article is finished. I'll also blast the article on Facebook. I've got my CPCs down to 1c and people are sharing the promoted articles like crazy (but only on Facebook and a few on Twitter. Nobody blogged or reposted the articles on forums):

Direct traffic increased as well, so I guess people like the content and come back for more:

SEO traffic is still climbing with 0 links built:

Avg time on site increased as well:

No 3 is the article that pissed off a lot of vegetarians / vegans. @Kimoto : the promotion on FB was a success leading to 1-2 c clicks and a hundreds of shares and comments. People sent private messages to the page saying that the article was awesome and that they did not want to comment on the article as they feared to be publicly lynched by the vegan mob. Strong emotions in that one. I think you could even get the same results without any paid traffic. I probably could've posted the article in a few vegan groups, sat back and enjoyed the carnage.

The whole trolling was an eye opening experience. I learned that the emotions the cow feels when getting slaughtered are bound as vibrations in the meat and will manifest in your brain and mind once you consume it. I also learned that Jesus was resurrected over 40 times because he was a vegan. I shit you not. Those people are being serious.

I'm really surprised that the traffic I got from trolling with the targeted audience function on FB converted into sales. The article is not really relevant to the CPS offer, so people must've spent time reading other posts on the site and then stumbled upon the sales article to buy stuff. This leads to the question if this would work with other troll posts / troll targeting combination.
Meatlovers vs vegans - works
Feminists vs rednecks?
Religious fanatics vs heavy porn users?
Unlimited possibilities. I might try this out later on but I don't think that this is considered as traffic leaking so I'll drop the idea for now.

ROI / profit wise I'm still in the deep green:

365%
704%
313%
268%
653%
384%
237%
336%
364%
85%
291%
504%
204%
418%
149%
454%
315%

Slowed down the spend a bit because I think that the demo will sooner or later burn out. It's a large audience, but you never know. Site is making 500-700 in profit daily. I'm also getting a percentage of people reordering in a few weeks after the initial sale (10-15% of the sales would reorder again).

Newsletter stuff:
I sent out 3 mailings with great content. No links, pure text.

First mailing:
244 sent, 71 opens

Second mailing:
244 sent, 57 opens

Third mailing:
244 sent, 40 opens

Not sure if those are good stats. I have to think about how to proceed with this. Maybe I should include a link to a free ebook / video course that is relevant to the content of the mailings to see how good the quality of leads is. People opted in because they wanted to learn how to get XYZ in X days. I think that would lead to a high lead quality, but what the fuck do I know about emailing.

I'm up to 450 optins now btw.

I still totally suck at traffic leaking. I hope that will change with the new article as we put a lot of hours into that one and I know that the same audience in a different geo responded well to it. One of my main bottlenecks right now is that there's no Reddit in my geo. There are a few forums relevant to my niche, but their traffic is very limited compared to the potential of Reddit. I reviewed my direct competitors lately and found out that the vast majority of their traffic is coming over Google and other search engines. Even their Facebook pages suck and they do not drive a lot of traffic to their main sites. Let's see how the audience responds to the new article.

I'm at a loss for words over how awesome you're doing.

I don't see why Facebook doesn't count as leaking. You didn't spent a whole hell of a lot, just enough to get the ball rolling, and it grew legs and brought you plenty of free Facebook traffic.

Well, what exactly is traffic leaking? For me traffic leaking means having different streams of traffic and not being dependent on one traffic source, wether it's Google or Facebook. Right now the vast majority of my traffic is coming from promoted Facebook posts. If FB decides to ban my ass tomorrow, I'm fucked with this project. So yeah, in my book I just found a way to run high ROI stuff while (hopefully) building an asset at the same time.

I just finished a 2000+ words, 10+ graphic post that is controversial, yet related to my niche. I can already see people taking two sides and bashing each other in the comment section.

I'll push this article with FB again, but my main focus will be on getting more referral traffic to this post.

Traffic leaking or not, what I can say so far is that the homework you gave us really changed the way I look at things. I think I finally understand my customers now and know which buttons to press to create emotions in their heads. Every now and then I look at the compelling titles list and controversy article ideas file I did a few weeks ago to help me with brainstorming.

NdQS9eA.gif

Round 2 of homework is coming!!

I don't like this.

It's going to be harder then before, If you are going to call yourself a CC9 100K visitors should be a walk in the park...
