This was pretty neat. It's a collection of anonymously reported rates being paid about by the biggest publishers in print and online, how fast they pay, whether the editors seek you out, the contracts, etc.

For you aspiring journalists and copywriters, this can tell you what the current rates are like in your industry and at certain tiers of influence. Also it provides a list of sites to reach out to and try to start a relationship.

For instance, New York Times Magazine paid someone $2.00 per word for a Front-Of-Book assignment of 500 words.

Buzzfeed paid someone $0.50 per word for a 6000 word feature that required heavy investigation, acquired through a cold pitch (Buzzfeed hit them up for it I think).

The entire list is down the left sidebar. Very interesting stuff in there.

Reminds me of the divide.

A small blog can publish a $1K article and end up losing $995. A massive media outlet can publish the same $1K article and make 10x-100x back or more the investment.

Interesting list and quite a range of pricing.

Forbes paid $6k for a 3,000 word investigative reporting piece. Would be curious to see that article.
