Do FB comments reside on the web site's Facebook page or the web page you're commenting on?

Mozbar does not detect them on the web site page as either Do-Follow or No-Follow which makes me wonder if Google even considers them as part of that page.

They comments are stored on FB servers and shown either on FB itself or if you embed comments on your site, in an FB iframe on your site. Apparently Google can see them - http://searchengineland.com/many-facebook-comments-now-being-indexed-by-google-99399

I'm just wondering if they contribute to your backlink profile. Since MozBar wasn't picking them up, I began to wonder if I should even bother with sites that use this type of commenting system.

I'm guessing that they do contribute though in some way if Google is picking them up.
