Hello guys,

I would like to track users when they arrive on my website. I know that it is possible with:

https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/eventTrackerGuide

Using this solution I would have to wire my whole template by myself. Furthermore, I read that heatmaps are also an extremely convenient tool to use for this task.

Is there any good free or paid wordpress plugin to fullfill this task?

Can this already be done with google analytics?

I appreciate your replies!

Are you wanting to track every single little thing they do? You might want event tracking for that. But Google Analytics already chases them from page to page and you can set up goals and funnels, etc. You might not know exactly which link they clicked, but you'll know just about everything else besides stuff like eye-tracking, mouse movements, etc.

Thx for your answer! Didn`t know that google analytics is so mighty. What do you exactly mean by setting goals and funnels?

Are you using sth. like a heatmap plugin?

Here's a solid post that walks you through setting up funnels:

This one shows you goals and gives you some ideas of some decent ones to set up (don't forget you can set intelligence events to send you notifications if your goals pop or dip too)

I don't use any kind of heatmapping. If I was running a lander with a high priced item I definitely would. I like to build content sites more so than product sites.

If you want to give heatmaps a shot, you could try out Crazy Egg which has a Wordpress plugin for an easy setup. Haven't used it personally myself, but there is a 30-day free trial if you want to try it out.

I really like Google Tag Manager as well.

Check out mousestats it's pretty good and very affordable.
