Do you have any year-end wrap-up rituals?

I'm going through all of my old backups and folders from various drives to clear out things I'll never need again and to make sure everything's in the right place. It feels like I'm playing a dungeon crawler game as I go deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole of folders like...

Desktop
Desktop to sort
EVERYTHING HERE
Old desktop
old files sort these
Etc etc...

Also doing some similar sorting and organizing IRL.

I got my 2nd office setup with a standing desk by the window for a nice view of the garden in the summer.

I'm feeling very refreshed after being a bit scattered lately thanks to a few days off during the holidays.

I'm curious if you have any rituals or things you like to do to start the year off right. Not so much a resolution that you'll be doing in the new year, but things you're doing before the New Year.

Are there any interesting things you like to track for the calendar year? In the past, there have been times where it'll be February or March and I'll realize, "Oh, it would have been cool to track X since January 1st..."

  • I go through my computers and laptops and clean them up/organize/backup like you are doing. This takes a couple weeks though so might extend into the new year.

  • Go through finances in prep for taxes. While doing this I also cut out services/tools/subs I havent used or are wasteful/no longer needed.

  • Think about the new year and goals. I don't make resolutions anymore, but I do reflect on what has been done, what didn't, how I can for the better ( in everything ), where I am on my 5 and 10 year goals, etc.

  • Plan out trips that are personal and business so I can start tracking for that and get ready.

  • Try to plan for milestones and how those will impact me.
    • Example, my 2 youngest turn 16 this year. Plan for insurance hike and possible autos.
    • I turn 42, need to start routine male exams now, should have started 2 years ago.
    • Gotta change my 10 year plan to reflect age ( retirement stuff, etc )

  • I run a 3 drive mirrored RAID so backups are always covered. But I do go through and clean them up plus any crap that accumulates on my desktop.

  • I clean up all of my email folders.

  • I reorganize Trello, though I don't use it daily. I pull stuff out to a text file on the desktop and work from there. But knowing all of my ideas and tasks are there ready for me and clean helps my mental RAM.

  • I print all of my different income and expense reports, file them away with the correct receipts in chronological order, get them in a 3 ring binder, and am 100% ready to pay taxes once I get all the forms in.

  • I check out how I did across the whole business plus with each individual project. I don't plan for the next 12 months in terms of tactics since that's always happening, but I do try to make some revenue goals.

I jerk off to what ever chart porn stripe / paypal / my bank give me for a bit.
Then I bite my nails and wonder what sort of paperwork I'm going to mess up for the irs this year.
