Billing my first client

I just got my first web client since I finished school and have started trying to make money on my own again. Its a local client (I've done these before), but instead of just asking for a check I want to give him a professional invoice. I'm also hosting the site for him so I'll need to bill once a month. I'm signed up at Wave Apps but I've yet to use it. Is this a good way to start out? Should I try to set up a recurring monthly hosting fee through Wave as well, or maybe PayPal?

It is better than Freshbooks and other similar services.

Thanks! I'm still new enough that transferring services after a couple months wouldn't be the end of the world, but I wanted to start off 'right.'
