Auto-responder vs broadcast emails

What's a good strategy for using an auto-responder to send general emails vs just using broadcast emails? My thinking is, if I put effort into writing some good emails for my current subscribers and they perform well, should I add the best emails to an auto-responder for new subscribers?

And should new subscribers on the auto-responder not be sent the broadcast emails until the autoresponder is finished?

It would be helpful if anyone can share how they approach this and manage their email content.

Really depends on what the purpose of each email is. Broadcasts work well for traffic generation (new blog post alerts) but autoresponder emails work well for selling as they allow you to create a multi-email sales series. A lot of the people who kill it with email use both- broadcasts to segment list members/leads into an sales autoresponder series based on their behaviour.
