Yes, do you have any SEO secret that you currently use on your own projects clients, etc that you think is known only to you, at least publicly.

If yes how good is it? How long have you been using it and how good does it work?

I am not asking you to divulge your secret, just if you have one and if you are able to consistently use it to your advantage.

It could be a small hack, a social engineering hack to acquire links, an onoage hack which is quite simple yet nobody else seem to be doing it.. eg: "Broken Links" seo was at one time only known to a few SEOs.

New tricks come around but not like you'd think... not like back in the day.

What I find is that there's new angles/evolutions on old proven tactics and new amalgamations of several tactics combined. These work out well, whether or not they're secret or not.

Another thing to consider is all the stuff people used to exploit that Google smashed... once everyone moves on, it's worth testing again because it's likely that Google stopped de-emphasizing it in the algorithm and it works again. This goes for on-page and off-page.

I have one little clever trickerooni that I think I've only shared with @Ryuzaki , it's nothing ground breaking but I haven't really seen anyone else talk about it. Just a particular way to go about getting 10-20 incredibly natural links on real websites that don't typically sell links, for $15-$20 each. It's a really nice way to start off your backlink profile.

How does anyone answering this benefit you?
This was just a fun thread. Can't we have casual conversation around SEO?

It doesn't benefit me. I just wanted to see if people are still getting creative. I didn't even ask anyone for their tricks..

This is kind of a shit thread. So I'lle give you a shit answer.

Around half of this shit still works ^^ Pay ur jon Tax
No need to be rude bro. We have known each other for over a decade. This was just a fun post and I didn't ask for tips, only if one has anything up their sleeves that they use as a secret sauce.

Cool.. It is good to have something quick and easy in the arsenal.

I was being for real. U asked for outing.
That’s still the best outing. Even with age.
I pay for it still out of respect. It’s a better value than college ever was for me.

Other premium outing that’s probably worth the money.
Seo book (sometimes weird about who they let in)
Traffic think tank ( has a lot of annoying people)
Mad society (probably the most useful for you specifically)
STM (slow but not dead and old stuff still works)
What ever the gaps.com guy is currently slInging tends to be super meta if you get to him before he shops it around enough.

If you want free insight that offers an edge you’re gonna have to learn Carters dialect or pm grindstone or some shit.

Mainstream advice that’s presented well saturates so fast these days it’s almost never worth bothering.

You want a line item low effort hack?
Buy a really good exact match or partial match domain.

A Good partial match is money keyword plus something that raises your click through in feeds. This can be cuz it’s shocking, cool, iconic or what ever it doesn’t matter. Point is to make your entity id part keyword and recognizably unique so you get immunity from googles weird indexing penalty thicket stuff.

Edit:
Here’s another stupid one that works better than it should.

Host on wpengine.

Mad society (probably the most useful for you specifically)

Lol wtf

"Mom, can we get some BuSo from the store?"

"Son, we have BuSo at home..."

BuSo at home:

An affiliate marketing forum for those left out by society.

I didn't even know they still made .net's...

My duder, you know I'm saying this with peace and love... You've been working on "ranking for a few really hard keywords" since the beginning of 2019 and you've done literally everything except publishing content and getting links to it.

I don't know what outings or tricks exist that are going to replace the fundamental thing that everybody else on the internet does to rank sites. I don't know what band of merry misfits is going to change this reality.

When you’re a writer everything looks like a writing project.

Content and backlink outreach will never ever number 1 a keyword like that.
Prove me wrong. I know you’ve got a nice domain in the niche.

Competition got a little dirty so I’ve been keeping more things to myself. Still grinding away, still dropping more sites in the niche. Free tools get so many more links than content I can’t really be bothered with blogging. What a loser of a strategy.

I’lle do a little more traditional content when I redirect all my free shit army plays and it will all work out fine.
Bet you a 10,000 word personally written article I hit low first page before the end of the year.

I’m gonna throw the whole portfolio in the bst for auction after I hit Number 1 and use all the money to open a gaming cafe.
This niche has rather nice cashflow and the posters around here seem to believe in significantly higher multipliers than I do. Gimme one of those 50x monthly cash flow valuations or some shit.

I don't know what outings or tricks exist that are going to replace the fundamental thing that everybody else on the internet does to rank sites. I don't know what band of merry misfits is going to change this reality.
Those merry miss fits have some pretty neat tricks and very impressive bankrolls. I wouldn’t be so negative just cuz they want a tax for sharing. Not all of us are as nice as carter and zuki with the free info.

Except for grind. You should pm him every day on as many platforms as you can if you want the latest seo tips.

No.

Hasn't seemed worthwhile after the ehow/ answers.com crack down updates.
Its been more than 5 years since I've had a non forum domain with more than 100k words on it.

Something I'd like to note that always needs repeating is that Google is historically a page based algorithm.

Skimping on the content marketing and just ranking sites with pure title tags and keyword entangled domains has been my historical recipe. I will readily admit its not working that well for organic for me that last few years compared to the previous few.
I'm still very optimistic about the strategy though because I've seen some pretty next level shit from google bots with regards to understanding and classifying non textual content. I think their ML classifier based tech will eventually work its way into reserved slots for tools for tool keywords if its not already happening.
(I don't want to bark at shadows but I think its already being done on a limited scale using proxy methods that are less machine learning related)

Google does seem to be moving towards being a a bit of a writing competition lately.
Been seeing a lot of reports in the builder society laboratory and /r/juststart of people writing their way to the top with no link building and totally garbage promotional strategies + crap tier branding that doesn't generate any substantial inbound recognition.
I'm sure there is something to be said for strategies related to mass content I just haven't chosen to pursue them. @Philip J. Fry runs some sites that do mass long tail content with incredibly strong results.

I'm a very lazy guy competing against a bunch of very competitive people like @CCarter and some extremely well funded 10,000xers with 11 gorillian content marketing people.

We don't have the overhead tolerance or writing technical chops to compete head to head so I'd rather buy a bunch of domain names and spread the content over home pages with most of the content being code not text walls. The one item I'm actually competitive on on is low cost development. I'd rather spend my resources on more code, server infrastructure and being price competitive. Also, have found that it is far easier to link build to root domains than any other page so I tend to just develop home pages and leave everything else as bare minimum plumbing. Its easier to make your branding / domain name carry water for you if you concentrate everything on the home page.

I think googles smart enough to figure out that nobody likes sky scraper montage rewrites, redundant how to farticles and pointless top 10 round ups eventually. All those kinds of things do in my mind is waste peoples time and more importantly jack up the overhead and pricing of your offerings. Given that I have 1k to spend, wouldn't you rather have another free efficient specialized tool over yet another article about a topic with 1000 articles already written about it?

My only plan for getting to number 1 is to use the feedback from our specialized tools to eventually make something or combine our existing stuff in some way that leap frogs whats on the market so hard everybody in the industry adopts it or starts getting pwned by our users.

If most of the users looking up keyword tool are looking for my site, I have a lot of faith google will eventually let it float to the top. Line item technical be damned.

You prove me wrong! Please!!! You've been trying to rank without content for years already, and you openly acknowledge it's not what Google is looking for... but you're waiting for Google to change what they're looking for, so you can be the guy who is ready? There's something to be said about looking forward and preparing for what's next while doing what currently works... but you're so far ahead of the curve that you're, well...

"By the end of 2047, I'll have cracked the top 100 - MARK MY WORDS! Then we'll see who's laughing."

Go get those rankings, and have everybody laughing at my post, I would literally love to see you ranking for all this shit. I don't have an ego with this stuff, I'd rather be wrong and see a buddy win. That's the ideal outcome for me. I want you to drop some massive I-told-you-so's once you finally crack that top 100 after years of trying.

b6VQZFF.jpg

If oxygen still exists on the planet Earth by the time you rank, I will say "Good job, buddy!", then I will mind-transfer you 45 quadrillion Musk Particles as a celebratory payment (as long as the Star Council still allows commerce by that time.)

I'm not going to bet against you because I'm not cheering for you to fail. I want you to rank, that's why I'm spending any time at all just pleading with you to try to focus at least 10%... 25% of your efforts on things that are demonstrated to be currently working and have historically worked since the dawn of search engines. You can still be a big weirdo with the other 75%, so why not?

You'd be better off being one of those silly dudes who spends months trying to rank for 0-10 volume keywords, instead of just refusing to have more than 50 words on your site. At least there would be a lot more relevancy there if you'd just throw Google a bone. You have some killer links, they WANT to rank you, you just won't let them. There's an ingredient missing. You've convinced yourself there are some crazy forces that are making Google hold you back... but it's just you, man.

If I can ever convince you to shift your content marketing strategy towards something that includes a little bit of ahem content creation, hit me up, I'll write for you for free, you don't need to win a bet. Do you realize how good it would make me look when you publish some of my posts, then you suddenly start picking up all this new organic traffic after being stuck in the mud for years?

All you have to do is just take your foot off the hose and fertilize these serps instead of shooting yourself with it.

Why are you so insistent on doing things "weird" or "scuffed" or finding some magical path while drowning against the current?

Come on a quick trip with me...

We're going out to the country, not too far out of town.

There's a field of stallions, okay, just gorgeous specimens - peak physical performance and decorated champions.

Total studs.

It's a sunny day, they're having a beautiful time.

They're grazing on delicious hay, and there are even some fruit trees when they want a treat.

As they enjoy their nourishing snacks, fit for a champion thoroughbred...

They look over and see this guy standing in the middle of the highway, trying to eat rocks instead:

mNB9sgy.png

They invite him over, they see potential. He's tenacious, but he lacks focus.

The trainers know exactly what it takes to win a prestigious and competitive race because they've done it, and they've seen it done for centuries.

But instead of joining them, this ass decides he'd rather stay on the other side of the fence, trying to glue a traffic cone to his forehead so he can call himself a unicorn.

Why are we talking about sites with 100k words, or eHow, or any of this? I'm not talking about turning your whole shit into some giant content mill - that's not what you do. You make useful tools for people, you don't have to change that.

I'm talking about not having a single paragraph on your entire site. Nobody is talking about some mass content mill here. I'm just begging you to at least put a single paragraph of content on your sheeter homepage lol, maybe if you're feeling really conformist, do an about us page, a policy page, a contact us... is there a "Small Brand Checklist" you've been following, or something, that I've never heard about before?

Sneak it in when nobody's looking, start to pick up some extra keywords, and we can pretend it was the cerebral vortex modulation to enhance interactive technologies that empower seamless deliverables that helped to orchestrate extensible channels that finally did the trick, and not just having a bit of content.

Why does this make me think of the skinny dude outside the gym taking all sorts of weird supplements, watching all sorts of cringe motivational videos where daddy yells at him, coming up with the perfect scientific strategies for post-workout recovery, thinking of all the things he's going to say to women once he's a little more confident... doing fucking everything... EXCEPT LIFTING WEIGHTS...???

You're trying to teach Google new definitions of the word sheet and to reprogram a matrix vortex cortex discombobulation metric strategsys space-time continuum vertical centrifugal network effecting morphiocentric neo post-time mainframe... and you're doing all this because you just can't bring yourself to post a few articles.

Those merry miss fits have some pretty neat tricks and very impressive bankrolls.

I'm not saying they don't, I'm sure they're lovely folks and I'll even go as far as to say that society was wrong to outcast them. They know I love them. Everyone's welcome in my utopia with open arms. But you wouldn't like it here, it's filled with content marketers who create content.

I don't mind if people charge for memberships or well-curated information, I've been trying to convince a certain forum to do something similar for years... In fact, I fully support it, maybe they can eventually save up for a .com. Sign me up!

I think googles smart enough to figure out that nobody likes sky scraper montage rewrites, redundant how to farticles and pointless top 10 round ups eventually.

Cool, so we're just going to wait until Google fundamentally changes what they're ranking sites for... and when that day comes... you'll be ready!

GRZGDta.png

I mean you admit that it's what Google wants, it's what they're ranking, it's what they've always ranked, AND that your current strategy isn't working for you... but your plan is to just keep smashing your head against the wall on the off-chance that Google decides to change what they're looking for, and that the new meta just happens to be what you're doing?

I don't buy it.

You may not call yourself a writer, but you do have a SIX page thread with mainly posts from yourself.

It's not that you can't write, or even have something to say, it's that you won't. @Potatoe is right (epic post above btw, thoroughly enjoyed that) it seems like you acknowledge there's some content missing in your strategy, but for some reason you won't indulge the big Gorg.

PS: count me in among the peeps rooting for ya

Yeah and it’s a pretty shit thread so far -_-

I’d agree it’s good advice in general. Just not for for sniping this particular keyword. My competition is utterly Ferocious. Pretty sure this one needs some next level outer space shit.

Anyway. I’ve applied my burn cream.

Warming up the oven to roast me a potato. I kinda feel like these posts are getting off topic. Imma reply in the lab thread.

Here’s some more obscure seo items.

Be consistently first to acknowledge and link to new domains and pages in your niche that are acquiring natural links at a measurable rate.

Blast out round up of lists industry brand names with your own sites towards the top.

I think Potatoe should write secretagentdad an appropriate length document of page text. It has to go on the page for 6 months.

If rankings improve by more than 50%, secretagentdad pays an obscene amount per word ($10 or more). If rankings drop, Potatoe pays a $500 fee to have the content removed.

Regardless we get to end this once and for all.

Nothing publicly known secret over here, just drop "secret" and you are good to go. Anyway...
  1. TEI
  2. CSIC
  3. KYCF
  4. BC&R
Timing Is Everything (TEI)
Keywords and search phrases are cyclical, so you want to make sure you have a content calendar that’s synchronized with these cycles. When people perform searches, they’re looking for the most current information – not months old news.

There are four ideal creative times to create content:
  • Yearly: holidays and current events that happen at the same time every year. For example, you could write a blog post about Thanksgiving, the Fourth of July, or New Year’s Eve.
  • Quarterly: seasons of the year. For example, you could write a blog post about spring, summer, fall and winter.
  • Monthly: monthly trends or recurring events in your industry and/or neighborhood. For example, New York State based Blue Tuna Gunsmithing LLC might write a blog post about whether the state of New York's denial of petitioners' applications for concealed-carry licenses for self-defense violated the Second Amendment. (New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Corlett.)
  • Weekly: news, industry articles, or webinars. For example, you can write an article each week of the year highlighting the top 10 news stories that happened that week.
Content Should Inspire Conversation (CSIC)
You need to focus on creating content that will help grow your social media platforms. You’ll get more and better conversation if you have more fans & followers, which means your content should encourage them to repost and share it as well as respond with comments. If someone wants to share your content with their own audience, they’ll either share it or in some way link back to you. Your goal should be for them to do this without any prompting from you at all.

Keep Your Content Fresh (KYCF)
The last thing you want is for your content to be stale because Google and the other search engines will push your site down the SERPs. You’ll get more views from people who are looking for current information than anything else. People also like to share fresh content with their friends via email, social media posts, or links in their blogs.

Be Consistent & Reliable (BC&R)
Your content should be consistent across all platforms so that you can develop a reputation as someone who consistently puts out quality work. This means using the same voice, tone, writing style and format on every piece of content you publish.

The other thing people will associate you with is that you’re reliable and consistent with your content. This means that it’s easy for them to find your content when they want it and that they can rely on you to deliver the information they need.
