It sad when one of the greatest of all time in anything gets wiped away by accident. Puts life into perspective. Even if you do everything humanly possible to be the best, eventually we all pay the piper.

Kobe was a truly iconic human being. It’s a goddamn shame.

Helicopter crash. The report I read said he had his 4 daughters on board but not his wife. A fire broke out during flight and emergency response came but it was too late.

I hope/think the reports of his daughters being on-board were false. Only 5 were on-board. That would mean Kobe was flying with no other person on board for safetey/mechanical.

Truly sad and odd how it happened. A fire broke out and you would think his helicopters were very well maintained and looked over.

All I can do is appreciate the great moments he gave our generations. Truly a legend.

Confirmed. 1 daughter was on board.

Its incredibly sad. Just last night here in philly lebron passed kobe on the scoring list and kobe congratulating him. I can't imagine what his family is going through

I don’t even know what to say. His work ethic is an inspiration to all. Today feels like a fucking nightmare.

I had a several paragraph rant here about the incredibly irresponsible breaking news reporting and the harm it causes time and time again, but it doesn't feel right to include that so let's get right to the Black Mamba in his natural habitat...

Putting up 81 points against my Raptors

Here's Kobe tearing his Achilles and WALKING IT OFF:

Like @CCarter was saying about Kobe's work ethic and intensity:
Gets his nose broken in an exhibition game and he's just excited that anybody was playing hard enough to break his nose.

Here's a tribute from this afternoon, both teams ran the shot clock on their first possession in a tribute to Bryant's #24:
It's not in the clip, but right after this tribute, on the very first shot of the game, the ball got stuck above the backboard and sat there right in front of the shot clock. I got chills.

Goes off for 42 with a broken finger:

Kobe embarrassing your favourite team:

By all accounts, he was an incredible father, too:
It wouldn't surprise me if moments like these meant just as much to him as some of his own big games.

Kobe gives some insights into his motivations, finding your "inner beast" in a dark place:
It's kind of an odd video but I think the message of taking something negative and using it to fuel your success is relevant at a time like this.

Academy Award winning short film "Dear Basketball" that nabbed Kobe an Oscar:
