Are there any noticeable SEO benefits from using HTTPS rather than HTTP? I found a fairly promising niche where the competitors are easy enough to out-do. One thing I noticed is that there are barely any SSL certificated in the SERPs for my niche.

So I am really wondering if having a SSL certificate will give me the upper hand and assist me in destroying my competition.

If there are no real SEO benefits: I think the green address bar may boost conversions to my affiliate link due to trust.

Maybe it might be a negligible signal (one that may push you up over competitors if all else is equal), but realize that once you implement the https you'll have 301 redirects from http -> https so you'll lose a tiny bit of juice. Most major sites I've seen (or worked with) on this migration have lost traffic following. That doesn't even consider the http/2 vs https change coming down the pipeline. Luckily, my understanding of that is that the 2nd will be attempted, and if not successful it'll default to the existing, so no redirects required.

If it's a new domain, or an ecommerce property, it's a no brainer.

Ah interesting. I found this chart fascinating: http://isthewebhttp2yet.com/measurements/adoption.html

Thank you for fostering my curiosity of how the internet functions. I feel more confident with creating my websites now that I have this knowledge.

It is probably safe to say that I will use HTTP/2 encrypted to get that edge against the other sites in my prospective industry.

Also considering that site speeds are a pretty decent factor, HTTP/2 would most definitely decrease my webpage load time.

If your site is up as HTTP:// for a while don't switch to HTTPS://
You will lose juice and it will take a while to get back up to par.
For a newer site, you can start https
