I just learned about this plugin - has a Chrome version, discontinued Firefox version though. It's a plugin that shows you changes to results you have googled by the ranking positions they moved. Screenshot:

So for example if you Google "SEO" in the morning then come back and google that same keyword the next day, if there were any changes to the result it will show you the up and down movement. Pretty cool little add-on.

Do plugins like this use some kind of API on every search request or do they fill up some folder on your computer with data, using it like a database?

Good Question. Since I clear my cookies and history and everything yet somehow have previous data - makes me wonder too.
