  • Overall internet usage is growing around 10% Y/Y (desktop still growing)
  • Smartphone growth is slowing
  • Average Adult uses the net over 3 hours per day (less than 1 hour 5 years ago)
  • Mobile ad dollars now exceed desktop ads
  • Internet ad spend is about to beat out TV
  • Google & Facebook share 85% of the growth
  • Ad blocking skyrockets, thanks to idiot webmasters
  • Advertisers are pressuring for better targeting (hell yeah)
  • A company named Snap is trying to retarget based on image recognition
  • Customer service reps and users are greatly preferring chats over calls and emails
  • eCommerce in general and direct-to-consumer package shipping is up
  • Food delivery growing at a revenue rate of 45% Y/Y
  • Gaming and gamification are both up in a huge way

Those 3+ hours are just for Mobile. Desktop/Laptop has decreased by <30mins per day over the same time.

Side note: India is exploding! 170 million GB of wireless data consumed in March 2016 to 1.2 billion in March 2017 (partly due to prices for wireless data being almost halved). Mujhe hindee seekhana hoga!
