Hi BUSO! Super glad to stumble upon your nice forum, looking forward to learning some new stuff and bounce ideas.

So let me shortly introduce myself. I'm closer to 40 than 30 and my official career position for the last 10 years is SEO Specialist. I have been working in agencies, freelance, and in big companies. I was part of a big team, I was managing up to 10 copywriters, devs or graphic designers or just working as one-man-band. I worked on startup blogs from scratch, and I worked on websites with 20M+ monthly visits.

During that time I had some cool ideas for side jobs (when you are doing a lot of topic/kw research you tend to find some gems now and then), but my full-time job was just too cozy to seriously push and build a source of stable side income. This summer I decided it really is a good time to get serious about this and at the moment I'm spending all my free time developing 1 smaller affiliate website (sports/hobby niche) and 1 bigger authority style site (travel niche). I am currently writing content, technical part (domain, hosting, theme etc) is ready. KW and competition research is done, let's see how Google will like me.

Anyway, I really don't expect any serious results until late next summer, but we will see, can I build something for myself, not only for the clients.

And yes, if you have any specific questions regarding SEO let me know, I might know a thing or two about it

Hey Krycheck,

I have a similar story to you and I also worked in SEO, but it's 10 years back now.

I also work in the sports/hobby niche, so we might have things in common to discuss.

Congrats on making the jump. I’ve read quite a bit here about others article briefs but I’ll always be curious how others prioritize kw research and how they deliver it to their writers.

I’ve personally seen fair results from giving the article angle based on topic/SERPS, assigning a primary kw to be used 5x*(preferred in title/h2’s), secondary kw’s to be used 1x each (preferred in h2’s), and supplemental minor kw’s to use where applicable. Most of the time I’ll do the headers myself but this process seems front loaded or time intensive when I consider that NERD/ LSI are nearly important in my humble opinion.

To streamline the briefs, we’re testing out a new method that involves assigning angles, primary kw research only, and having editors NERD the content in hopes the writer/ editors create the best content possible. Results TBD.

With that being said, what have you found to be time and cost effective when it comes to delivering kw research / article briefs to writers?
