~~ RIP DMOZ ~~
6/1998 - 3/2017

Eulogy:

Born in June 1998 as GnuHoo and then changed to NewHoo because GnuHoo is stupid but they still wanted to rip off the Yahoo directory name.

Netscape bought it in 11/1998 and changed it's name again to Netscape Open Directory. Then AOL bought Netscape and changed the name to The Open Directory Project.

When it became DMOZ, I have no clue. But with the Yahoo Directory closing down in 2014, it was only a matter of time before DMOZ laid itself to rest, drove in its final nail, and lowered its coffin into the burial plot.
