From the bottom of this Official Amazon Native Ads FAQ:
As far as how many are recommended... I don't know. I'd say 2 at the maximum, and if you do that it should be one in the content and one at the bottom of the content, and not stacked next to each other.
"The recommended placement is at the end of a product article or within a product article page and NOT the side rail."
But I would like to place it in the side rail and hence I would need to customize the width and the height of the ad unit?
Native Shopping Ads are NOT designed for side rail placements. We do not endorse or recommend such placements as we have found them to be sub-optimal for this ad unit.
Basically, you're not allowed to tweak the number of columns, just rows.
