Automated Phone Verification Service

I'm thinking about using an automated phone verification 3rd party service on a new site I am creating.

Something that the user will enter in their phone number, will receive a callback with a 4 digit pin number. To verify it's them.

Anyone share their experience(s) with this? Which service have you used? It's new to me.

I've used nexmo before (and was very happy). You could roll your own with twilio but I am a big believer in focusing on core competency.

Things to think about: are virtual numbers ok for you? VoIP?
